Michael C.'s Story
Life
Michael passed away on April 27, 2004 from complications of advanced Hepatitis C. He was married for 29 years and is survived by his wife, son, brother, sister, two nephews, one grandniece, and three grandnephews. He will be missed.
Michael graduated from UTEP in August of 1973 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He worked for Schult Homes Corporation (now Clayton Homes) in Buckeye, Arizona for nearly 20 years. After college, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and also lived in Tucson, Phoenix, and Avondale Arizona.
Mike coached youth soccer with his friend Al Bucina for a few years and was an AYSO coach for four or more seasons.
Mike loved to play golf and go camping with his son's cub scout pack. Many would consider Mike a model parent as he always attended his son's pack meetings, recitals, plays, and parent-teacher conferences. Mike taught Jason to play golf and would often let the boy drive the cart from one tee to the next.
College
Michael started college right after high school and finished a four-year course of study in just three years by going to school year round. ...Expand for more
(Yes... he did summer semesters!) He graduated in August of 1973 with a BBA in Marketing and Management. He had a GPA of 3.0 when he left UTEP.
His fondest memory was when he was in the student union and someone was giving away free puppies. He picked up a black lab mix and took her home. Brandy was his constant companion for many years... until her death in 1983.
Michael also spoke of how he and his best friend, Werner Chaplin, would study for classes together and how they kept each other going when either of them felt too burned out to continue.
Family
Mike's son Jason was only 21 years old when his father died after a five years of battling Hepatitis C through chemotherapy . Although the two of them shared a lot of good times together, it is still tough to lose one's father at a age when you can finally relate to him as an adult. If you have any stories to share, please post them here and they will be forwarded to Jason.
Mike's father, Charles, died in the autumn of 1979 of advanced leukemia and his mother, Eula Mae, died in October of 2001, and his sister Marcia died in May of 2010.
